This is the Monday Maintenance day for September 14th. This particular Monday our goal is to complete the awning cover over the picnic tables between the office and the Conex. We are going to have all the materials on hand to complete this work. We think it should take six or seven guys that know how to do this type of work. We have to put up a 2x6 header a 2x4 header, a couple of cross members and then some lengths of the corrugated galvanized steel as the top.
We are going to keep the aluminum posts from the original awning as the base and support for this awning. If you have them available, bring your power screwdrivers so we have enough battery power to complete the project without having to stop and recharge. As usual please register on the website if you think this is something you would be able to help with.
For those of you who do not know the history, we had some hurricane force winds at the range last fall that tore the old aluminum awning off. We had originally paid a little over $1000.00 for it. Our insurance has a $1000.00 deductable, so no help there. The original warranty was good for up to 90 mph winds. Unfortunately the National Weather Service measured wind gusts in excess of 110 mph, so no help there.
The good news is that with your help with the labor, the cost of the materials for the new awning is going to be less than $200.00, and it will be very much stronger than the aluminum awning.
