Become a Volunteer

We are an all-volunteer organization and we rely on our friendly volunteers to operate the facility daily.

There are many ways to help, most requiring only 9 hours a month. Volunteering also has benefits. If you volunteer your time as an RAO and/or RSO, it could qualify you for a no-cost Membership.

And last, but not least there is always a way to help that requires no time commitment or the ability to do some light physical labor! Donation Today!

Without NRA Certified Range Safety Officers, Red Cliffs Rifle & Pistol Range would not exist! We are the only NRA Range in Southern Utah, and why is that important? Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts must use an NRA Range for all of their firearm events such as Merit Badges. Being an NRA Range has helped us qualify for some grants from the Local Friends of the NRA.

So, if you want to become a real help for Red Cliffs Rifle & Pistol Range, ask about volunteering as a Range Safety Officer. Working a minimum of two shifts per month, four to five hours each day supervising the firing line and you get all of the benefits of an Annual Member, while the Membership fee is waived.

There will be periodic classes to teach future NRA Certified RSO’s. If this is something that might interest you, just send an email to Red Cliffs Email and request more information.

If only we had 80 instead of 40 active RSOs, what a difference that would make in Range operations. We could be open more days, and evenings, making use of our lighting. And we would not have to constantly worry about someone becoming ill or going on vacation, resulting in the closure of the Range.

One of the very important roles of Range operation is the role of RAO. This is the person who greets shooters when they first enter the range, handles the paperwork and collects the fees associated for their activity. The RAO collects information to be passed on to the Range Safety Officers before that shooter is assigned to the Main Range or a Shooting Bay.

Why is this so important?
The RAO is usually the first person a visitor to the Range will speak to. They must be familiar with Range Rules, and make sure the visitors have eye and ear protection and targets. RAOs operate the Point of Sale system (cash drawer) and follow the office procedures.

Working a minimum of two shifts per month makes you eligible to receive all of the benefits provided to the RSOs. Interested members should contact the CRAO.

Range maintenance is a never-ending part of Red Cliffs Rifle & Pistol Range. There is always something to do, including painting, cutting target cardboard backers, cleaning up, and constant repairs of various parts of the Range. We can always use additional help when it comes to getting things done promptly.

Currently, the Range has a core group of Maintenance volunteers who address its daily needs. In addition, one day a month typically occurs when additional volunteers are requested to deal with larger Range projects. What a difference this has made in the appearance and functionality of Range operations.
